On the other hand, titles that sell well over time like the Wii series, or break out hits like MH will sell consoles over a long period of time. For example, it's possible the next MH (say, next gen) will see a pattern closer to FF.

Halo 3 and GTA IV probably had the same effect to a lesser extent. The Wii was also probably selling on the 'promise' of motion control games (much of which hasn't yet turned up, how many people were looking forward to a 1:1 lightsaber game?) in the same way PS3 sold on the 'promise' of FFXIII.
