correct. you've corrected me. i should rename the OP from "big franchises" to "big franchises with an existing fanbase".
and yes, for franchises with an already established fanbase, user base on the console is not going to matter. it's going to sell roughly the same with every single iteration, providing the same quality.
and this is why gran turismo 5 is going to sell 10 million. all GT's before that have sold 10 million. the fanbase will all buy it, and so you will get your 10 million, even though the PS3 user base isn't as high as the PS2.
