America gets screwed over when it comes to racing stuff. A lot of people seem to think nothing can do anything when Nascar's dominating the scene (kind of like people complaining about Ninty 1st party games). It's a struggle to find a broadcast of anything outside of F1 (only available on Speed Channel). Top Gear is shown everywhere but the US. I could go on. But my point is, it works like a vicious cycle. Because very little is shown in terms of non Nascar racing (Speed Channel, which is half dominated by Nascar, and HD Theater are the only two channels to view any sort of racing), there's less interest in these types of games.
