Greatest.... Game.... EVER! If anyone enters this thread who doesn't have the game, buy it! To whoever was asking, I think the game of the year edition added new MP aspects.

In other news: Why does this damned machine keep giving me lemon-lime?! I wanted orange!

Anyway, I'm keeping an open mind about Deus Ex 3 but it does sound far too console influenced for what is really quite a complex game. At least the tech on consoles is closer to the PC than it was when Invisible War came out. There was a texture pack within like 6 months of release!

Agreed.  I would love 3 to be great, but after Invisible War dropped the ball (and badly) I'm very cautious.  Deus Ex to me simply requires complexity and depth - that was key to the appeal and critical success of the first, but I think it's going to be more Bioshock than Deus Ex, which I don't personally consider a good thing.

I'm also wondering how badly Thief 4 is going to be mangled too.

I haven't heard much on Thief 4 so I've got my finger crossed they don't completely ruin that franchise too.

I hear ya. I actually liked the direction they took with Deadly Shadows though, the free roaming bit, vendors and fences and avoiding the patrols. Just seems more natural, but I do wish they'd made more out of it (bigger areas with more things to do, houses to break into and such).

With the ending of Thief 3 : SPOILER:

doesn't it seem like Thief 4 could be set many years later with the new kid that Garret has taught as the main character? Otherwise, I don't really see the point of the ending. Then again, I won't like not playing Garret unless the new character is beyond awesome (the voice alone makes Garret stand head and shoulders above most and some of his lines are really good)! Life is hard!

You're right - the problem with Thief 3 wasn't so much the story and direction, which I liked, but the use of an engine and level design that, due to having to fit on the Xbox, severely impacted what should have been.  At a time when the Unreal engine could support fairly large levels Deus Ex 2 and Thief 3 had some of the smallest levels possible, just really silly small.  What annoyed me, because I played both on PC of course, was that the developers didn't even stich the broken up levels together, which would have been easy on PC and would have instantly imrpved things a fair bit.

Deus Ex 2 I thought they mangled a lot, but Thief 3 I enjoyed playing, I just hated the level size and all too obvious issues that came fro their decision to support PC/Xbox at a time when, unlike now, the disparity in specs was just too large.

Actually the disparity is just as big now as it was back then. Think of the disparity of Crysis and the consoles, and now add 2 years of GPU and CPU upgrades. PCs outpace the consoles right now by leaps and bounds, if they did a PC only game it would blow the minds of people. Sadly they aren't so the games will probably suck the big one...

Well, I agree on the tech side, but what I meant was consoles are closer to the average vs high end PC so sensible level sizes, etc. are possible.  I'd love to see Deus Ex 3 at the Crysis level, but I'll settle for Deus Ex 3 at current 360/PS3 levels so long as the game, story, etc. were good and not the mess Invisible War was.

The thing is, that that probably wo't happen. The disparity between controls is just as big this generation as it was any ther generation. That alone caused many design decisions in Invisible War, and ultimately making it suck pretty badly. Dragon Age showed clearly what the disparity between PC and console controls are when it comes to controlling anything other than a fighter or a platformer. That difference hasn't changed a inch since last generation. In fact it's worse since the 360 doesn't have the black and white keys anymore.
