Its not a copout. Its a realistic expectation when we take a relatively new PS2 and a new gen FF X and compare it with a relatively new PS3 with a new gen FF XIII to determine what should be our realistic expectations. I dont understand how factoring in userbase is somehow a copout. So if i sell 4 products to 20 potential customers yet someone sells 5 products to 200 do you think im a better salesperson? You probably wont because it goes against your argument, but in reality its a good variable to compare and contrast to determine success or relative success.

you didn't bring any evidence about how userbase effects the sales of FF. In reality FF7 and FF10 sold about the same as all the other FF games on the same system regardless of the fact that the userbase multiplied several times.
currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X
