but im still puzzled at those Wii numbers... |
why are you puzzled by the Wii numbers?
|
Such a big increase.
Wasn't expecting it at all. Even the Japan Preview has it at 100-110k.

check December numbers on the Wii, while doing better this year than last year, still beind 2007. It should do 200k next year. What's amazing is those 76k on the mighty PS3, selling better than ever.
|
It's not far behind 2007. And honestly, PS3's not all that far ahead of 2007 either...
Wii Decembers (1st 2 weeks)
- 2007 278k
- 2008 148k
- 2009 243k
PS3 Decembers (1st 2 weeks)
- 2007 104k
- 2008 56k
- 2009 126k
|
Huh? Wii is 12.6% behind 2007 and PS3 is 17.5% ahead of 2007 according to those numbers. We obviously have different views about "not far", to me means within 5%. You could argue within 10% is not far, but close to 20% (for PS3) isn't "not far". Improving sales by 17.5% in the peak sales period of the year is a very good result.

I'm talking in actual units, not percentages. A 20-30k swing for 2 weeks just isn't all that much in the scheme of things.
Interesting to note that PS3's best performance is still 20k behind Wii's worst too...
|
If you're comparing December with December there isn't a "scheme of things" to consider. You are simply looking at the growth or decline in sales in a specific month, or in this case a specific 2 weeks. In the scheme of things PS3 and Wii's December performances aren't the full story so there is very little you can meanigfully say other than whether December is following the general trend or if it is going against the general trend. For PS3 in Japan December is following the general trend since slim was released in being significantly up on comparable weeks in previous years.

I'm saying a 20-30k unit swing isn't a significant figure given the period. "In the scheme of things" there's just not all that huge a deviation from 2007, for either console, PS3 had a slight lift, Wii a slight decline.
I'd argue the only significant ups for either would be in relation to 2008 (Wii up ~95k, PS3 up ~70k).
