I was 6 5 and 225, then I stopped working out compeltely and fell to 175, then back to 225 from pure fat, now I'm down to a stable 195-200. I didn't exercise or do anything and ate anything I wanted to lose 25 pounds. I just stopped eating when I was no longer hungry, not when I was "full." It works damn wonders.

An old boss of mine did something like this. As I recall, the rules were pretty simple:

  1. As soon as you feel hungry, eat something. Don't wait until you're REALLY hungry.
  2. As soon as you no longer feel hungry, stop eating. Do not keep going until you are 'full'.
  3. Avoid fried foods when you can. It's not the end of the world to eat them once in a while, but avoid them when practical.
  4. Avoid getting more than 1/3 of your calories from fat. Again, it's not the end of the world to do so once in a while, but avoid it when practical.

He called this 'grazing', because Rules 1 and 2 pretty much precluded the possibility of meals as we tend to think of them: it was more like a long series of snacks throughout the day. This makes it impractical for some school, job, or family scenarios. But he was in a situation where he could do it, and he dropped weight like a stone. Like an effing STONE, I tell you. Several of my co-workers tried it when they saw what it did for him, and it worked well for them too. Apparently this works by speeding up your metabolism.

Canned cherries were his favorite snack. Something about lots of energy in a small package.

Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.
