I found that the codex entries were pretty interesting by themselves, and they did contribute a bit to the action, but not enough. Apart from their backstory, the Geth were as bland enemies as one could get, and besides the first storyline missions and the moon thingy, all fights amounted roughly to this:
1)Camp a doorway / corner / box
2)Lob a few grenades / use a few powers
3)Activate the pistol DPS ability and hold down the left mouse button
Lather, rinse, repeat a kajillion times. With the Mako it was even worse after the novelty of riding up and down mountains wore off (=after 40 minutes or so).
And yeah - if ME was a (mini)series they would've been forced to actually give Shepard a personality.
