A more recent example of this is Mario Party 8 ... It is easily (one of) the worst Mario Party games ever created and yet it is already the best selling Mario Party game, and will likely increase those numbers and end up leading by a wide margin. The truth is that popularity is not typically associated with quality ... As I was pointing out earlier, the 'hate' for a lot of things come from people who feel that the success is undeserved; people hate Paris Hilton because there are hundreds of thousands of starving artists who are far more talented in every pursuit Paris has attempted, and yet they go unnoticed because a spoiled rich girl had a sex tape ... |
this is one of the few times I will ever say this when it comes to one of your posts.

But you didnt go into detail. Well enough detail.
Popularity and hype can blind people from the obvious flaws in things and make them think all others are crap.
For example, UTIII on PC got an 8.5 from IGN. Did it deserve it, hell no, but after playing a game like Crysis of course they will look at most games that doesnt natively support DX10 with shame. Plus all the hype put behind Crysis even blinded IGN because the game might be beautiful but its a far cry from being at Battlefield's (their own franchise) level of fun.
