He makes money, companies don't care about mediocrity if they have a huge bag of golden coins over their desks.

Someday I'd like the win the lottery and I'd have somebody make me an authentic bag of gold coins, with a big green dollar sign on it. That would be awesome. And you're right, corporations love mediocrity; the more people that like something means the less offensive it is, means the more boring it is. It's a pretty natural evolution. Look at Taylor Swift! (Where's Ps3 when I need him?)
