Sure, if we were in a time capsule and it was pre E3 2006 and we didnt know the PS3 was launching at 8 billion dollars it would have been a failure.
But i believe you even said it "Perspective and relative" right?
We are all intelligent people and given the circumstances of this generation and the hurdles Sony has overcome (granted their own fault) we can now look at the numbers and see that by the end of this year the PS3 would be selling on pace since its launch with the 360, variables ocnsidered, it surely is pretty good considering how dire it was at one point.
