Sales matter more for those companies bottom lines, and as shown, Wii sells more thrid party games. Just that the gaming press selectively chooses the big HD hits to counter that, ignoring how rare they are (and that selling a million copies isn't even a guarantee of profit on them).
So third parties need to make more good games, but they are making games at all is important.
A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
