The one time in like the last almost ten years I have pirated a game was Mother3, because it never got released in Canada and people online translated it. Now I know thats not perfect justification but it's the only way I could play it, with the exception of ordering it online and then buying a flash converter and uploading the patch to make the game english. That would have cost like 100$ for one game.
That being said, piracy is totally wrong. Just look at the PSP and DreamCast you say homebrew helps but with 50-million PSP's how many games sell? Ziltch barely any software sells!
I disagree with homebrew as well. I buy a console for Nintendo's products and third parties games. I don't see companies selling content like Wisdom Tree's old Bible games. I don't see homebrew content on store shelves, who needs the homebrew stuff anyways untill I start seeing homebrew content selling legitly in stores I will be against it.
Nintendo just needs to learn now they need a tougher console to crack down on piracy. Don't use Dual-Layered DVD's and flash cards use your own format and leave room in your console for updates allowing you to counter hardware mods. You don't see much of a problem on PS3 do you?
The answer is tougher hardware that isn't easily cracked. Use an update like Microsoft's recent one, all consoles modded were taken off X-Box Live imagine all modified Wii's no longer having internet access! No more shop channel no more updates to play new games cut them off completely!
