A knight with a low alignment is kind of a waste. With an ALI of 0, there is no upgrade path left for the knight. He would be better as a mage, or wild/evil man. Since with an alignment of 0, the only high teir units you can get are with items (werewolfs/vampires) or up the mage/wild man path.
Also liberating towns doesn't seem to affect the ALI of a unit. After as much research as I could possibly do, the only time ALI changes is when you kill another unit (do not need to obliterate the entire group). Now ALI only goes up if your unit is at a lower level and higher ALI. So the problem you will get with Warren is that he will be too high of a level and too low of ALI to ever actually fix it.
I agree with khuutra, putting a princess with your hero is a waste. Since it is ussually a bad idea to use your hero, its even a worse idea to waste a princess too.
