Big electronic sellers this year
HDTV HDTV HDTV!!! Ipods GPS and.... BLU RAY PLAYERS! |
You are giving Blu Ray just twelve months to overturn DVD.
Good luck with that !
Last figures I saw put Worldwide Blu Ray sales at approx 5 percent of total Worldwide DVD sales

They've been getting a lot of >10% weeks and I can see them getting 20% weeks for the next month. Blu-ray more than doubled in 08 from 07 and more than doubled 09 from 08. Now with the recession subsiding and people buying luxary items again along with the continued momentum of the Ps3 BRD will have a massive 2010. Especially since I'm calling it now. BR exclusives next year. Worse case scenario... It'll be at 40%

While I enjoy your optimism since I am a huge Blu-ray supporter, I think the best case scenario for the end of 2010 is 40% marketshare. Considering that its best month is 15% market share, for the monthly marketshare to be up near 40% by the end of 2010 would be fantastic. But when that happens you will see a huge push from movie studios to get DVD phased out.
I wish the numbers for this week came out, I was certain Star Trek would have pushed Blu-ray to its first 20% marketshare week. But no numbers have been released to my knowledge. The latest digital magazine numbers were for YTD numbers.

Well, I think 2010 will have a faster adoption rate then '09. HDTVs are becoming real affordable (Sub 500 for 32in+) and people are starting to spend money again. I believe with faster TV adoption in 10 than in '09 then blu-ray will benifit with it along the normal increase.
BTW - Target deal: 40 something in 1080p Vizio TV and Blu-ray player plus 2 HDMi cables for 700 dollars.

It probably will have a faster adoption rate, but the YTD marketshare is only 10%, with the best month at 15%. So an increase to a monthly 40% marketshare is an increase of 167%. Which would be exactly the nubers they would be looking for.
As for your other comment, You wont see a huge blockbuster like that become exclusive to Blu-ray until it hits at least 40%. Next year we may start to see alot of timed exclusives, Like the Blu-ray releasing 2-4 weeks before the DVD. Thats already happened on a small scale this year. That will probably be its biggest help other than the price of movies staying in the $20 range.
