It seems that every anti-Nintendo fanboy will quickly jump on whatever third party title they can find and use that as reason to believe that hardcore titles can't sell on Wii. Games like The Conduit, Madworld, Dead Space: Extraction... wait, let me ask 360/PS3-only owners: would you have bought these games if they came to the 360 or PS3?
It's really funny and ironic when people use games like the three mentioned above for their aforementioned argument, but also say how bad they are. I mean, really, you're going to say that bad games not selling equates to a lack of hardcore gamers?
Fact is, I don't think I've seen any third party effort outside the Call of Duty franchise on the Wii that actually has any appeal (oddly enough, World at War on the Wii sold over a million copies, and Modern Warfare Reflex is showing similar sales records). Saying a game like The Conduit, a poorly reviewed title that even Wii owners called 'generic' as soon as it was announced, selling bad is proof that third party games can't sell is the same as me saying third party efforts can't sell on the PS3 because of games like Lair and Haze, two games so bad in quality and sales that they actually sank the development companies.
For a final note, can you name any third party game that looked to show more promise than a Nintendo produced title? I can name several third party titles on the 360 and PS3 that look to put Microsoft and Sony's in-house companies to shame, and that's why they sell. However, you can't name one third party Wii title that takes the audience as seriously as Nintendo. Once that kind of game comes along and tanks in sales, come talk to me, but for now, we have nothing but low budget, poorly advertised and reviewed, niche titles to argue that 'third party titles can't sell.'
(Note: perhaps Capcom's Monster Hunter Tri fits my description of a game meeting or exceeding Nintendo's quality. But look: it's close to a platinum seller and it's not even out of Japan yet).
