I'm just trying to drive the point which you seem to be missing. Whether or not MS or dev's "like" having to hold out on development until 360 was launched is irrelevant, it's a straightforward question that needs no debunking (if you will). If you wanna speculate what MS would/wouldn't do, you're barking up the wrong tree. Instead try to answer the sales reasoning instead of the what MS would do reasoning. You just said it could anyways only to have devs sour with them. Since it could and does in my situation/question, do you think sales would be much different yes or no? Edit: You're link is broken btw |
Of course, because when devs get sour they stop giving you exclusive games and timed exclusives, they may even withdraw from the platform completely, we may never have seen Mass Effect or any JRPG's on the 360, wait a minute, strike that, We would NOT have seen ANY JRPG's on the 360 that MS didn't fork out BIG bucks for, the appeal to the eastern developers is that the 360 has the larger install base, with the install base below or at parity with the PS3, there would be VERY few Japanese developers lining up to put games on the 360, this means games like Infinite Undiscovery, Tales of Vesperia and Last Remenant would probably have launched on the PS3 instead, this means smaller sales for the 360 in Japan and MUCH bigger sales for the PS3, Japanese PS3 owners have been a little starved of JRPG's, thats why I predict that sales of FFXIII will push PS3 sales over the million mark.
I have no doubt what so ever that even if the 360 launched on the same day as the PS3, with all of the games it had after a year of release, it would not only have alienated the developers, but the PS3 would outsell still because of the buyes predisposition to trust PlayStation over Microsoft, Sony have a reputation far greater than that of MS for delivering the goods and there were alot of PS2 owners in 2006-7 ready to convert who got scooped us by the 360 instead.
But even with the 360's 9million unit lead, the PS3 has already eaten away 3 million in the past three years, this recent surge could see the PS3 ontop by 2011, that means, without the years lead, the PS3 would be in the lead by 3 million (minimum) and looking to expand!
