Do you have the Compoud Long Bow from 1-2? Go and buy yourself 150 arrows, position yourself on the first tower after the first dragon passing and snipe him from there. With 150 you'll kill him in about 15-20 minutes.
Afterwards get the Purple Flame Shield, and upgrade it as soon as you can to +5. It's the best 100% damage reduction shield in the game with a good Guard Reduction % to weight Ratio.
