Motion Controls
If Sony keeps bombing TV's across the world with down to earth marketing this should be a killer app. One good marketing campain and a couple of not possible on Wii launch titles will get the word of mouth flowing, that Wii is not the only motion controlled game system in town. Sony is doing well right now, and this should be an easy way to pile on interest. IMO they would have to be pull a real dumb move to mess this up.
As a note to that here is my trojan houre way of getting the word out about PS3 motion. MLB2010 commercial with people playing the game with the motion controlls. Then end it with MLB in motion, Only on PS3.
3D
This is going to be a major factor next year. High quality 3D will be Blu-rays biggest blow to DVD, and digital downloads. It should spark a mass influx of new Blu-ray consumers, and anyone with half a brain can figure out PS3 is the best player on the market. Then we have 3D games, which will also be motion controlled in some cases, and we are looking at things only possible on PS3.
I know no one has 3D TV's yet but just the fact that it is possible will drive sales.
SOS
The launch of Sony's online digital store will continue to expand the content available on the device, and drive it far beyond the compotition. I think one thing Sony should really consider, is putting out music with no compression. We have the harddrive space now, and PS3 is capable of pumping out the best possible audio. This would be a huge advatange over any other retailer, and would easily sway audiophiles.
Beyond that the possabilities are endless here. I am expecting the to have books for the new E-readers, and that should include comics. Aside from that it also sounds like this is were the subscription plans will emerge.
Price Cuts
The slim is still a big system, and their is a ton of fat left to shed. I think the days of $100 price cuts on PS3 are over, but it is still hard to tell. It starts to get sketchy next year with the introduction of the motion controllers. Do they plan a pack for $399 that includes motion, and leave a base pack at $299, that is for people not interested? That is something mabye Sony is still unsure of.
In any case Price cuts are always based on neccessity. If they are still selling great next year, I do not see a cut. If they start to faulter, and Wii is still plowing ahead, I think a $50 dollar cut would be a large possability. However, trying to even predict price cuts, and timing right now is only speculation at this point. But, what we can bee sure of is, PS3 will reach $199 in the future, and will be even more feature packed then than it is now. So people interested now that can't afford it will find,a way in through price, and people with no interest will have many more reasons coming to take a look. The lower the price, the more interesting it looks.
Games
Sony still has the largest first party development team in the industry, and it continues to grow. It was games allown that pushed the original PS over 100 Million units sold, and now the games are much better, more diverse, and the console is more than a CD/Game player.
