Didn't anyone else say this? They'd leave gaming.

Nintendo is an integrated hardware and software company, they wouldn't produce one without the other. They'd start selling bathroom scales or something, and no more games. It's been set clear as day, Nintendo is in the business of hardware integrated with software. If they can't do that in gaming, than all their franchises will be retired. This has been made VERY clear already, back when Nintendo wasn't doing so well at that. So stop dreaming.

A more appropriate question would be, what if Sony and Microsoft stopped making consoles.

Then the entire market will belong to Nintendo and 3rd party will be obligated to produce games for the Wii and DS consoles. Nintendo will now be able to improve further their hardware with all the propositions they will get from third parties. Unfortunately, competition is a really good thing. Nintendo produced most of the best game on the market while they were in competition with Sony in the era of the 64.

But it won't be a great loss for Sony and Microsoft if they had left the gaming market.
