Ok... let me get this straight.
You're cherry picking a FF13 screen to a a FF12 shot running through a PC-based emulator. I'm not familiar with PCSX2, but if it's anything like Dolphin (the gc/wii emulator) games can be rendered at a higher resolution with AA, V-sync, and one hack even allowing true widescreen in games that didn't original support it.
The shot you provided for FF12 is supposed to be representative of what exactly? It is obviously rendered (NOT upscaled) at a higher much higher than native resolution with AA and other goodies.

He was talking about the fact that assets weren't changed and it still looked good, however that just proves that the assets were done really well on FFXII and stand up to being upscaled. The real issue is, is that making things run on weaker hardware isn't as simple as some trick since these assets have to be changed, while upscaling they do not.
But I do get his point, with the work, you can get the same game on Wii since the PS2 ran a game that looked nice and can stand up to FFXIII if upscaled.

While I haven't used it, I want to point out that PCSX2 most likely renders games at certain resolutions, and the resolution in the FF12 comparison shot for this thread is clearly well above 720p. Rendering is not the same as upscaling. Since the Wii doesn't run games in 720p, wouldn't it be more accurate to find a 480p shot of FF12 running in an emulator and compare that to the cherry picked FF13 shot? (question directed at the OP)

Oh yeah, I should've said it's unrendered, not simply upscaled. It's also got some (beyond PS2) filtering applied I believe.
