"I'd love to see Eastern Europe grow, prosper and sell more consoles. It'd be neat to see what the Polish and Russians could do for gaming."

The following slide was shown at a Sony conference in Warsaw last month. It shows Polish sales of PS2 + PSP games in 2007 compared to PSOne + PS2 game sales in 2002, as you can see there has been exponential growth over the past 5 years in Poland. There is still huge growth potential in Poland and Eastern Europe, as the GDP per capita is still way below the European average, but should continue to get closer now that they are in the EU. As an example of the huge potential for growth, Sony revealed that 14,000 PS3s had been sold in Poland, with sales forecast to be between 25,000 - 30,000 for the financial year. Around the same time Spain, with roughly the same population of 40M as Poland had seen PS3 sales of 218,000 (GfK). So despite having the same population size, the Polish PS3 market is currently just 6-7% of the Spanish market. Unfortunately we don't know 360 or Wii figures for Poland, but I'd assume they would also be in single figure % compared to Spain.
