Well it does seem that New Super Mario Bros Wii might surprise us. I think most people have been in the range of 700k-800k first week or 750k. Pretty much been what we have asserted sales to be. But based on a lot of new info coming in and quotes from Source and ioi, it's very possible we could see this game even break a million on its first week. So far no Wii game in Japan has managed to do this so it would be quite a feat.
What seems to be going on is this game is being denoted as the big holiday game on the Wii. Even further, NSMB Wii may just be the big holiday game in Japan despite FF13 coming out a couple weeks later which no one has even thought about. It is rallying the Wii hardcore support in Japan along with a big mainstream power right behind it. NSMB Wii in Japan just might be bigger than we have been giving it credit for.
All I know is the next few weeks in Japan with SW3, ToG, FF13, and NSMB Wii all coming out is going to be very interesting.
