So, I picked up Lost in Blue: Shipwrecked this week for $15, thinking that it was a rpg game. After reading about it online, and people tearing it apart, I was worried that I wasted money.
I didn't get a chance to play it until last night, where I clocked in 5 1/2 hours on it. Whether it was fun or just simply addicting, I do know that it kept me awake 2 hours later than I planned to stay up.
The game basically is about this kid who is on a boat that sinks, and is trying to survive and find a way to get rescued. You run into one other survivor fairly early into the game, and have to make decisions and explore to find things to keep you both alive.
Graphically, the game doesn't offer anything major, but isn't awful by any means. Nice environments, interesting map layout.
Gameplay is interesting, easy enough for a young kid to pick up, but intriguing enough for an adult to play. You need to balance out time out exploring with time to rest and eat, all while trying to maintain a fire to keep the characters from getting sick, as well as cook. If you like exploration adventure games, this will be up your alley. The Wii motion controls are used a bit, like rocking the Wiimote and nunchuck together to shake coconuts out of trees, etc. The only annoying part of the gameplay is the constant minigame when cooking. Timing food slicing or flipping over meat before it burns adds some "Cooking Mama" elements, and the better you do, the better the quality of food. It gets a bit time consuming however. Then again, when ISN'T making a meal time consuming?
Audio - Nothing crazy or dramatic, though there is a lot of use of the Wiimote speaker to give a spatial sound.
Play time - As said, this game demands a chunk of time, but makes you want to keep going. In 5 hours, I haven't accomplished some of the starting tasks yet, but I just cant find some needed objects. Making tools requires certain goods, so there's a big need for exploration.
Overall, I give the game an 8 out of 10. If you're not a gaming snob and are looking for a new adventure, pick this up. Can be bought at newegg.com for $15.
