I don't think actual golf matters as much to people, but I think a lot of people who play wii like the golf games. Golf is actually quite fun, it's just that the initial cost is so great that not many can afford it. You need a golf course, and clubs and balls, and all of those are pretty expensive and courses that are open to the public are actually hard to find.
However, because of wii sports, I think a lot of people have found enjoyment in the game. It is easily my favorite, and everyone I know that owns a wii also owns tiger woods golf.
Just look at the sales of the game. Golf games are very popular.
Plus, it's not just golf though. Tiger woods transcends golf. I read something in the local paper at least once or twice a week about tiger. He has been compared with Michael Jordan, and at the moment, is the second greatest sports athlete just behind tennis pro andre agassi.
