I seriously doubt that anything IMGTEC can make will be that much more powerful than what nvidia/ATI could make in 2012 for desktop class GPUs maybe 3.5x times more powerful than what we have today if you ignore the 5000 series from ATI and G300s that will be out in early 2010.
they mostly make chips for cell phones etc it makes more sense for them to be making a chip for the PSP that is 3.5x more powerful that the competition as Nvidia and ATI haven't really invested much into that level of tech until recently.
