So I need to ask, as a mod, what can/should I do to prevent the threads from getting derailed?

Merely because it seems like each day, there's something else out there on atleast this forum, that elicits OT and trolling behavior.

Heck, even this thread has already been derailed from "am I the only one that thinks that the forums have been derailed by ot posts and trolling/hating beahvior" into a thread about why the X360 is great, or sucks, or anything like that.

My idea was/is to use my mod powers, atleast on this forum, to try and curb the off topic and trolling behavior. Merely because if it happens here, it can start happening at other points of the forum.

May I ask this of the Wii owners that posted in here: How would you like it if I started coming into the Nintendo topics, and went at length to start attacking your system of choice, and your game(s) of choice? And again, I did that in your forum. Not mine.

Everyone should certainly feel free to post in the MS forum, but I fail to see why we should treat someone that doesn't own a Xbox 360, have any interest in it, and definately sees the world from a much different slant, the same kind of credit and opportunities someone else does. There are lots of multi-console owners in the X360 forum, but they are the ones, 7 out of 10 times, defending the thread/cause of the X360.

So I guess what I'll just do is whip out the ban stick if I need to (but after warnings, of course).

Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of fine folk that never will own a Wii like Rolstoppable, Naznatips, DonWii, and others that post in the X360 forums and usually have something intelligent and constructive to say. But then, you have others that just seem to come in to bash the X360, or raise the post count. I've never seen leo-J or Soriku come here to post a topic about something new/exclusive to the X360 and talk about it from a neutral standpoint, have I?

You mean like this thread:

I know you did not start this or even posted in it, but this is a great example of Wii bashing from people that do not own/want a Wii.

Later on a COD4 thread, there were a lot of angry users with the game short duration. You said something like : why people attack this game and ignore Mario Galaxy a 7 hour game.

What is my point? I think that for someone who dislikes criticism from those that do not own a 360 you do it a lot for the Wii and PS3. On the Atlus thread you said on several posts that Wii rpg line was weak, subpar and minor compared to Xbox 360. How all that started (IMO)? Some users stated that 360 was the console of choice for JRPGs, Wii and PS3 supporters disagreed and the thread degenerated into a flamewar.

You also made a lot of harsh comments to the Wii line of games, like Rol already said in his post. I agree that the thread as way off topic by them and some of your attacks were more like counter attacks.

Even so, you should mod your own 360 buddies if you want to prevent people that do not own a certain console to post into console specific threads. If you want to prevent flaming this way then make sure that 360 onwers post only on 360 boards.

I think this solution is the worst, but I wanted to show you that it affects everyone.

I agree with this.  I think mods handing out bans based on neutrality is d-a-n-g-e-r-o-u-s.

ioi - I urge you to consider removing the hot topics section, or making threads have some sort of color-coded indication of what forum they are in.  I think that would help and make trolling more clearly trolling.  It took me a couple weeks to even realize there were multiple subforums.
