Insomniac employ 180 staff, so that's about 75 personal per game on the developement side, as some are in their recently opened studio and some will work in PR etc. For a 75 person team to be churning out a new game on an 18-21 month cycle and consistently hit million sellers is quite simply a successful business model - not to mention they're no doubt getting plenty of added royalties / funding / help for being a Sony exclusive developer and having SCE as their publisher.

The last thing Insomaniac want to do is put all their eggs in one basket, try make one huge 3 year epic game with their entire workforce and risking ending up doing a Factor 5 or Cryte....ahem, Free Radical.

Your last sentense doesn't even make sense, if you look around most studio's are having to lay off staff and cut workforce numbers. The simple fact that in a recession Insomniac are one of the only studio's to be expanding is a glowing reference in favour of their business model.

Don't get me wrong, I think they are doing alright and wouldn't want them to make 1 huge game every 3 years, but reckon that the polish applied at the end of games is just not there and could very well be part of the issue why their sales aren't huge.

Looking at Uncharted 2 as an example, ND have I think 140 people now, but had to tool up to help with the MP etc, and they put a 2 years cycle into a game with plenty of polish and maybe they are just lucky to get the wonderful sales...currently 1.6m over the first 4 weeks.
