I disagree in the sense that I don't think you're taking their apparent business model into account.  Even allowing for bundling, etc. they've shifted around 6 Million units by your count in 3 years, by releasing 1 major game a year, with R&C CIT just being released.  Compare that to many studios releasing 1 maybe just releasing their 2 game in the same timeframe, for far less total sales, and you see that they simply must be nicely profitable compared to a lot of developers (note I'm not including the rolling in it boys like Epic, with probably well over 12 M unit sales in a 3 to 4 year timespan).

Sure, they'd love everything to sell 3M units plus and would be rolling in dough, but they take more of a factory production line approach so far as I can see, and their games seem to see more steady sales vs front loading, which also means steady revenue streams - the result, I reckon everyone get's paid on time with little fear for their job.

Their issue I think is they need to shift their titles to quieter times, or keep stuff like Resistance titles launching too close to other big FPS.  I reckon they'd see even better sales then.

I understand their business model and commend them for being able to release game upon game, and at the latest count, they have released 5 games (4 full price and 1 DL) in effectively 3 years since the PS3 has been on the market which is brilliant, although this leads to other questions about quality and rushing out titles, but thats for another post.

Anyway, they must have a huge staff along with the fact they now have another studio to make games for them, so I reckon it must cost them mega bucks to operate, but they must feel that Ratchet has come to an end seeing as they currently only have just over 2m sales over 3 games and they must work hard hours (lots of OT) to get games out in time year after year.

We all know that Insomniac has a huge game within them just waiting to be made, yet it seems that the sales they want and need are just outwith their grasp.

The longer the PS3 is on the market, the more likely sales of games should increase in general, yet it seems that Insomniacs games sales have stunted and not increased at the same rate of PS3 purchases.

Even though R2 has it's critics, me being among them, it was still highly rated and has not and will not reach the kind of sales numbers that quite a lot of people on this board reckoned it would, again this includes me.

Maybe they need to relook at their business model and maybe this is why they have created the new studio to help in the process.
