NSMBWii has all this back material it can reference. It feels like a spiritual successor to SMB3 while still pulling bits from every 2D mario platformer and even a bit from Mario Party. As usual, great level design and Nintendo's ability to make something immediately accessible but still fun to play for seasoned gamers makes this game really good. System seller for me.
LittleBigPlanet, while lacking the nostalgia factor and time-tested formula that NSMBWii has, manages to stand on its own as a good platformer with puzzles. The creativity of the userbase never ceases to amaze me, and warrants booting the game up at least once a month just to see what's new. Local multiplayer is a blast whether you're playing some insanely well made user created map or just having another go at Meerkat Bounce.
