| MikeB said: @ HappySqurriel We will get bigger movie-like games eventually, game development just takes lots of time. To make Uncharted twice as big would take almost twice the time and cost significantly more to produce. The PS3 needs games like Uncharted now, a game like God of War takes up to 3 years to design. Luckily there are exceptions like Oblivion or fun replayable games like Super Stardust HD and Warhawk to get back into when finishing an action packed rollercoaster ride of a game. |
It was more an observation than anything else, and I'm also pretty sure we won't be seeing many bigger games on the XBox 360/PS3 in the future ...
Many/Most of the longer XBox 360/PS3 games gain their length from sand-box qualities because the cost to make a crafted gameplay experience is so high; if you're spending $10 Million to $40 Million to craft 8 hours of gameplay it is unlikely that you will ever see a similar 40 hour game produced with a similar attention to detail.
@ Happysquirrel:
Euhm I thought it was the same last gen?
I still remember Jax and Daxter that was pretty short 8-10 hours but Jax 2-3 were a lot longer.
Yes/No ...
The 8 hour game has existed since the Playstation/N64 but many/most of the big budget games in the previous generation had much longer single player campaigns; and many/most had many more multiplayer modes typically with more maps in each of the multiplayer modes.
