It took more than a couple months for Nintendo to create the Nintendo 64, its controller, and Mario 64. Everybody was working on analog joysticks at the same time. We might never know who started their development first, and it doesn't really matter. What we know for sure is that Sony wasted theirs on the PC, and Nintendo's changed gaming and 3-D camera controls.
But Nintendo DID patent their perfect D-Pad, which is why every competitor's D-Pad has sucked in comparison.
@everybody, what's with all the title screen jokes? I must've missed something...
