The best selling racer this gen (and actually ever) is Mario Kart Wii.  That won't be changing.

GT4p did 1.5m with no NA release and very little support.  So GT5p is hardly inflated, its just happens that a $40 demo from PD is better then most full games.

Mk wii is no racer, if it is then Twisted Metal could be a racer. 

GT5P did over half it's Japanese sales due to free JP bundles.  It's sales were hugely inflated.

And going by your Mario Kart comments, I'm guessing you've never actually played the series?

It sold better on Wii than it would've on any other console, that's why it moved from PS3.  The other reasons they brought it to Wii were for the promised Nintendo push in the west and likely simpler PSP porting down the line.  Capcom's definitely been making the right moves with MH3.
