Where I live and grew up (the inner city) it's slightly safer than it was three decades years ago. Living where I do there are many small neighborhoods that sit side by side. You can be on one block with multi-million dollar houses and walk six blocks down the street and pass in front of crack houses. Crime has been down over the last 20 years.
