really from the start of this gen alot of people never really owned an HDTV, thats why nintendo stuck with SD, whats wrong with that? its called business you make more money doing it.

That is completely false

Did you actually read the comment? You just claimed there were 0 people who hadn't owned and HDTV back then.

Did you read the comment? He said not many people had an HD TV, when a large percentage of the population already had an HD TV in late 2006.

No they didn't.  Especially in areas like Europe.  Most people didn't have much of a reason to buy a HD TV back then, the majority of sales probably came from people needing to replace old TVs which isn't a steady stream.

This article from the biginning of the year (that is 2009) puts HDTV penetration in the US (which is ahead of many other countries) at only 25-30%, so in 2006 it was probably a lot smaller, and anything but 'large'.

I think some developer for a HD game recently said something like 40% of people actually play in HD.

Mark Reign of Epic recently said about half of Gears players played it on HDTVs. Also around the time, the Elite 360 dropped HDMI cable packaging.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
