@68soul: If Nintendo released hardware on par with the HD consoles, they wouldn't have made nearly as much money. Looking at the financial reports of Microsoft / Sony, it's clear that selling hardware at a loss isn't the way to go.

They would like to have the console for everyone, or as you say be the "real" market leader, but only as long as they profit from it. As it is now, Nintendo has likely already made more money with the Wii than the PS2 has in its entire lifetime.

Anyway, I wouldn't worry about next gen. Nintendo has made its presence known, and they will not be underestimated by third parties next gen, so the games will come. I can't imagine the next Nintendo console being weaker than current HD consoles, nor do I think that power could be considered not "good enough," even a few years from now. I mean, how great does a game need to look, really?

You're totally right about the profits made, but i still think Nintendo could have released a slightly more powerful console right from the start... not really HD, but more RAM, by example, would have been great...

When Wii was actually sold for more than its official price on the black market for nearly two years, it just proves people would have easily paid 300 euros/dollars instead of 250... so why not release a slightly more powerful console for 300? And maybe even lose a little bit on hardware for a year or two, till the costs go down and profits are made, just the same?

Anyway, what is done is done, and it won't change anymore, so everything i may say about this is useless... but i hope that their next console will be a really awesome one, in all aspects, this time... to please everyone, and be treated with respect by anyone: no more flame wars for an entire gen, please... :)

And all the best games on the Nintendo's console, too...  :)
