Old platform is selling more than competitors and making profits, killing it isn't smart, they can wait a year after their competitors then launch, that would be the best move.

Nintendo is losing steam, lol, maybe from last year, but they are still selling more than the PS2 did at this time in its lifespan, so they fell from monumental, to just amazing, that's no reason to kill the prize pig. Also PS3 may be higher than it was before, but will it last, MS will cut again soon as well, and Wii will be getting better software, so a couple of months of good sales for the PS3 is hardly reason for Nintendo to worry, especially when they are still leading on a weekly basis.

How does a userbase shrink? It only grows, unless people start throwing away their systems, their userbase may be growing slower, but its still growing faster than any other console ever.

Who says about letting them go unchallenged, let them launch first, both PS4 and 720, then a year later them, launch in response, much like Wii did.

I never said Nintendo should kill the Wii. In my opinion the Wii will still be selling in 2016. The Wii will likely have a 10 year life cycle, does that mean Nintendo should hold off on a next generation platform for 10 years? Look at the PS2 it was selling really well when Sony launched the PS3. Or how about the X-Box, sales were starting to grow stronger but Microsoft still launched the 360.

Did the PS3 kill the PS2?, No the PS2 is still selling tens of thousands of units every week. The Wii would continue selling regardless of whether Nintendo released another platform. Nintendo could aim the Wii at the casual market and cut its price way down. Selling it to non-gamers and casuals while the hardcore and early adopters would rush to the stores to pick up Nintendo's latest console!

It is never smart to get too greedy and milk your cash cow into a coma. Yes the Wii is selling stronger then PS2 was at this point in its life cycle, but who says that will be the case in 2011 and even if it is the case , why would it be smart for Nintendo to stick with the Wii rather then launch a whole new platform?

I'm sorry I mean market share not user base. Nintendo's marketshare is beginning to fail, sure Wii is selling better then PS2 was at this point but PS3/360 are also selling better then GCN/X-Box at this point. That is not justification for all three hardware manufacturers to hold out longer and longer.

fact is it is in Microsoft's best interest to launch the next X-Box in 2010 and its in Nintendo's best interest to launch in 2011!
