Back when Counter Strike was starting to gain popularity I had a (very rich) friend that multiple computers that could handle the game as well as a local network set up. We went there to play. I needed a nickname...
I needed something that sounded a bit agressive, so I added 2 letters to my family name. Gran means Spruce in swedish, by the way. It's not actually referring to an elderly woman.
I've used the name ever since. It's fairly uncommon, thank god, so I can usually have it to myself. It would feel wrong now to use any other name, just as it would feel wrong to use any other avatar. It simply feels like my name, not just another internet handle.
