Last I heard, Nov. 4. Demo release is subject to Valve time, so don't hold your breath or anything.

Based on the demo, some of the established tactics from L4D1 are going to need to see a massive overhaul to work in L4D2. It's a whole new animal, and I can see why they made a new game instead of adding content/patching L4D1. I simply can't wait to have a go at versus with the new special infected.
