sony managed to steal alot of third party due "CDS" and they make engines "Easy of making games".
but also nintendo wasn't really nice to third party.
sony on the other hand took big risk at publishing.

nintendo today haven't change much, they removed GBA slot, totally killing guitar hero: DS.

The issue is that Sony had the solution to cure both ills: it was easy to develop for and cheap to publish for. Saturn had the latter, but not the former (with it's insane architecture), and N64 had the former, but not the latter (Cartridge costs, both for publisher and consumer alike)
