Gears has added many new elements such as sliding into cover, blind firing, swat turning, climbing over cover, shoulder firing while aiming under cover. Every game has a previous game you can find a similarity with, but that doesn't mean the new game is copying aspects. Gears is the game to which all cover aspect games will be compared and I guarantee every game will fall short of the perfect cover system in Gears. |
I don't think anyone said Gears of War flat-out copied kill.switch. But it's clear that Epic were inspired by the cover system in kill.switch, which is fine, since they evolved it to a whole new level.
Uncharted didn't bring anything new to the table, but it combines third person shooting and platforming very well along with a strong cinematic experience.
Those are what makes those 2 games stand out, although I will also say that Gears is more innovative than Uncharted. But neither game is TRULY innovative in their core gameplay aspect.
Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!
