in FFX your right, I didn't really need to grind much....but at before a few bosses I decided to grind to get that magic that was just a few spheres away....& so on.
in FF7 I didn't need to grind at all, maybe some minor grinding.
BUT FF12 scarred me in terms of grinding....I had to GRIND A LOT in it.....I never used the gambits properly, I was stupid & tried to control all the characters in a turn based way (I dunno I never felt it was "correct" to use the gambits)....it was a terrible experience, I don't think I played the game in the way it should be played.
In Pokemon I did grind LOTS
