Wait wut is NSMB?

@yushire
May I ask who is that girl in your avatar?

New super mario bros. and my avvy was Haruna kojima

@puffy----> So Malstrom was right about core gamers after all. I dont want to be frank but SMG isnt the "revolutionary title" on mario 3-d games either. Yeah it have high production values yeah it have many levels but its not different from other mario 3-d games either... Though the explosion and flying part was good though. But then Zelda TP was GOTY too even many fans were disappointed with it including Malstrom including me after I've seen OOT on youtube and it looks like the same, only with incremental upgrades.

Now your credibility's gone: you haven't even played it? How could you compare anything, then? You just follow other people's opinions?

Otherwise, i agree with puffy's comments: you just can't compare NSMBWii to SMG in terms of innovation... it has the "wow factor", it has everything needed to please the Mario fans and many gamers who simply want to have fun, but it's not revolutionnary by any means, except maybe its multiplayer gameplay... but "revolutionnary" would still not be the right word to describe it...

And btw, yes, most people are "expecting NSMBWii to be an extremely good game in terms of quality"... when Miyamoto does things right and takes his time, he's the best game designer in the world, and if some people still don't understand this after 25 years, they should just get a life and stop doin' lame comments...

Now, GOTY? In the heart of most Nintendo lovers, sure... and isn't THAT the most important thing? Who cares about haters and snobs, and people with totally different tastes in gaming? Just know what's good for you, and enjoy...

Why does someone have to be a hater or a snob to think that another game seserves GOTY over NSMB?

There's an amazing world of gaming out there being played on non-Nintendo consoles too. You don't need to be a "snob" to know that.

Are you kiddin' me?

For years and years since i'm reading videogames news and websites on the net, all i see is Nintendo's hardwares and softwares named "kiddie" and now "casual", and globally dismissed by a self-proclaimed "gaming elit"... it was already the case in the GC-GBA generation (when Nintendo was gently asked to go "out of business"), and even with the success of Wii-DS, and everything they did right for this industry and for the gamers, it's still not good enough to be treated with some respect...

I mean c'mon, just read some Wii reviews, look at Metacritic and most of the most famous websites: it's all about being "hardcore" and "mature" and stuff: if a game is in 2D, if a game is colourful, if a game is rated E, then it's treated like some thing of the past, that may still have its place on the market to please retro gamers or families or Nintendo fans, but not the "real hardcore" gamer...

The fact that such games may be brillantly designed, may have beautiful and fluid graphics, may need the same skills or even more skills to be completed, and may bring more fun than your typical shooter or RPG out there, seems totally irrelevant in the eyes of yes, "gaming snobs"...

Now, you're right, there are many other excellent games released each year, on any platform, and ALL OF THEM deserve praises and respect... but what i was sayin' is that most Nintendo games are treated as they were "out of touch" with what the "real gamers" may want, or may vote as GOTY in this case... when in fact, when everything's said and done, it's all about tastes, preferences, and of course, bias...

Well said.  To put it simply, only 3D games with snazzy graphics and who are deemed for 'hardcore' game players will be deemed game of the year.  Despite the fact that these games may only be played by 10% or even 5% of the gaming community.

well if you look at the data HD owners actually represent 50% or so of the gamers on consoles, not 5 or 10%...

I was referencing the fact that while people will claim Uncharted 2 or a similar game is 'Game of the Year', only around 5% of 'gamers' will play it (if that).  While a much larger percent of the pie will play something like New Super Mario Bros Wii.

Does that make NSMBWii better?  No.  But it does show that more and more, 'GOTY' is a moniker for 'Hardcore, elite, SUPER game all the COOL kids have'.  AKA, just another title for Review sites and publishers to display for sales purposes.
