They could try many things actually, like giving up of trying to increase ps3 base and just put price at 600$. Sales would decline like a rock, but at least they wouldn't make loss for sales. The worst mistake that Sony made at beginning of generation was not releasing ps3 for a higher price, okay it would have sold less, but, it was already expensive and selling it at 1000$ price would hurt the sales but no their wallet.
