Yeah it's a spin off and on a smaller user base but that is a huge sales difference. The remakes of DQ V IV sold 3 times as much as the DQS and those were remakes of old games.

DQ Monsters: Joker sold sold over 3 times as much as DQS and that was a spin off too.

Come on, man. Why not mention all the other DQ spinoffs that have sold worse than DQS? There are plenty to pick from, including one from the PSP, PS2, and DS. Proof of 3rd party troubles? Or, is it just the fault of the damn games? In fact, the only DQ games that beat DQS are the main series / remakes and the DQM games.

As for remakes outselling bad spinoffs, it happens more often than not. Take a good look at the Final Fantasy sales on the DS. The remakes outsell all of the spinoffs.

Also, I still don't understand why 3rd parties are singled out, as if Nintendo has the owners under some sort of hypnosis. Popular IP's will sell well, regardless of who makes it, which is why RE and Sonic easily break a million, GH sells tons, and why MH3 did great in Japan (higher than the top PS3 title). The situation was exactly the same with the DS, but everyone has conveniently forgotten about it.
