Biggest entertainment launch in history? Doubtful. I would think the final harry potter book would hold that title considering it sold (not sure if the reports means shipped or not) like 15 million copies in the first 24 hours alone WW (most of which were sold in the UK and the US).

But I guess the games industry doesn't count literature as entertainment.

Except GTA IV sold 6m copies at 3x the price, with Special Editions as well, it brought in $500m and around the world, I don't think that copeis of the book were sold at $33. In the UK some places were selling it for £5

Modern Warfare 2 does have a decent chance of beating that number with all the Special Editions

The fifteen million figure I found was for the first 24 hours. I haven't been able to find the rest of the week so anything I say is speculation. But potter would only have had to sell an extra 3 million titles to triple the 6 million figure, it could very well have sold more then that. I do know there was a report in 2008 that said the book had sold around 44 million copies. Either way potter would have made a similar amount of money, in Australia I know many stores were selling it for 50 aussie dollars for example, but yes as always many stores were undercutting each other.

Eitherway its going to be close between the three properties.
