CDs beat anything ?
In the Ninetys CDs where the only Media for all purposes but nowadays the market share is anywhere near the former heights. The CD as music transporting thing is replaced with mp3 and for PCs from DVD.
It will take a time for Blurays and there will never be Bluray Music Player in Cars because its pretty senseless. The people dont need the space for music thats why the CD has still an use as mp3 cd or classic Album CD.
In the Computermarket they are almost gone completly the only reason why they are still used is because they are so cheap that it makes more sense to store smaller data on them then on DVD.
Records have some oldschool charm and will be on the market forever.
And there will be never a time where a single system like the CD once or the DVD will dominate the market in that extend because there are still niches where the CD or DVD are sufficient. As long as they are cheaper then bluray. And for other purposes USB Sticks and portable HDDs.
The Time will come where its completly sensless to use CDs or DVDs and Blurays. Infact optically they look all the same its not a thing like the Records which acompanied the Humanity for almost a century.
Edit: bluray is Not a Sony proprietary Format. Its founded by 9 members and the same goes for DVD Sony was a founding member too. But still everyone uses DVD. Bluray is NOT Sony.
