I stopped reading after the first "tidbit" about Wii 2 having a Blu-ray drive... it's more likely that Nintendo would try to resurrect HD DVD than license Blu-ray technology from their arch rival Sony.

Disney is big on blu-ray, so Disney might be wanting the Nintendo console to have a blu-ray drive to have their games on there.

Okay this is my speculation on the matter.  Disney wanted to put Epic Mickey on the HD consoles, but they saw that the Wii had a better demographic for the game.  While developing Epic Mickey, Disney discovered the Wii had all the right ingrediants for their upcoming games except for the necessary technology to realize their artistic aspirations for Epic Mickey and Kingdom Hearts 3.

So, they are promising Nintendo they will bring these stellar games to the Nintendo console as soon as its tech is up to par.  And they will use their pull in the blu-ray consortium to get a blu-ray in Wii 2.

The Wii 2 will release in 2010 with tech as good as in PS3 and 360 and a blu-ray drive and it will have launch titles including hd versions of Mario Galaxy 2, Metroid:  Other M, the Next Zelda, Epic Mickey, and Kingdom Hearts 3 on the way in 2011.

It will retail for $250 to $300.00.

But is that why they're already developing Epic Mickey for the Wii and have screens (though the game's still a year away) out already? A Wii in HD would alienate the casual fanbase the Wii has which attracts a lot of Disney fans. I doubt Disney have a problem with the Wii's tech...

If they're making KH3 anytime soon, it'd be for the Wii not a nonexistant Wii HD...

Quite a few people that comment on Epic Mickey say that the game's graphics aren't up to par with the original artwork for the game.  A more powerful system could more easily approximate the original artwork.

Nintendo has the casual fanbase with games like Wii Fit and Wii Sports.  If they want to attract more than 50%, they will need a more powerful console capable of putting out the same kind of graphics that the other consoles can and games like FFXIII, Fallout 3, Bayonetta, etc.

So, why not solve this problem by putting out a newer console that is fully backwards compatable with all those older casual  games that also has the graphical power, tech, and games to attract the hd crowd away from PS3 and 360?

At some point in time, I think Nintendo has had to wonder about how they could be doing even better with Modern Warfare 2, for instance, on their system along with their other offerings.
