As for the virus issue, I've been running W7 for 4 months now, I haven't installed any AntiVirus client and use IE8 for all my browsing. Haven't had a single problem with viruses or malware.
Given I ran Vista for 3 years with Symantec Endpoint and never had a single quarantined item so I think I've been pretty safe for a while now. The entire redesign of Vista was to make it more secure. I work in IT and to be honest I can't actually recall seeing any virus outbreaks on a Vista PC at any of my clients (over 1200 systems managed) since it came out.
