Because if you discard Japan ( where western games usually don't do so well) the PS3 user base is about 30% smaller than the Xbox360.
31.5 millions of 360 sold out of Japan vs 22 millions PS3.
PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !
PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !
